FTZ was started by Gerard & Clayre Doherty in 2002 when they opened an independent mobile phone store in the village of Claudy just outside L’Derry. They soon realised the strength that the O2 brand had in Northern Ireland and indeed in the Northwest. In 2006 when the opportunity to go into partnership with O2 arrived they grabbed it. FTZ was the first O2 Franchise in Northern Ireland situated on the location of Spencer Rd in L’Derry. The city was chosen by FTZ and approved by O2 in 2006. Gerard & Clayre went on to open their 2nd O2 store at Laharna Retail Park Larne in December 2007. Subsequently a partnership was born with FTZ & O2 Ireland in 2008 where they flourished opening a further 8 stores that cover the upper half of Ireland. The O2 Ireland business was subsequently sold to Hutchison Whampoa who has operated under the “3” brand in Ireland since 2014. FTZ pride themselves in the Ethos of sales through service by supplying what our customers require and by demonstrating all the products & services that O2 supply.
